Prayer Shawl Ministry

May God's grace be upon this shawl.....
Warming, comforting, enfolding and embracing.

shawl_hands.jpgIf you knit or crochet, you already know the comfort and tranquility found in the repetitive rhythm of the process. While your hands are busy, your mind can be emptied of anxieties and details created by the chaos of modern day life. We can enter a world of contemplative knitting, repeating the pattern of three representing The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. We can reconnect with our Father and His desires for us. We are humbled by the Grace and the gifts He has so generously given us. And we can pray that the shawl we are creating will remind someone of the love and comfort He has available for each and everyone of us. We are never alone!

May this mantle be a safe haven...
A sacred place of security and well-being...
Sustaining and embracing in good times as well as difficult ones
.

Members of Trinity's Prayer Shawl Ministry gather on the second Wednesday of the month, in our Prayer Chapel, to pray over any completed shawls and lap blankets. They are passed through our circle of hands as we each add our silent prayer for the needs of the individual who will receive them. If the needs are known, a specific prayer is said. If we do not know the recipient, we pray that God will guide it into the hands of the person He intends it for and they will receive the comfort needed.

shawl_maker.jpgA simple charm of a rugged nail, formed into the shape of a heart is attached to a corner of each completed shawl and lap blanket. It is then wrapped in tissue, tied with a strand of yarn and presented to someone in need of a reminder that God is always there. We are never alone! As they cover themselves with the shawl, our prayer is that they feel the warmth and comfort of our Father's arms wrapped around them. They console those who are grieving, comfort those who are ill, bring hope to those who are in despair. Women in our congregation have embraced this growing ministry. Shawls are among the most intimate gifts we could ever give to someone, because they are a concrete expression of our prayer, and a tangible manifestation of a lasting, intimate encounter with God.

May the one who receives this shawl
be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace, and wrapped in love.

Trinity's Prayer Shawl Ministry is an outreach. The individual creating the shawl/lap blanket receives God's peace while they contemplate the repetitive pattern, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. When asked what they are knitting, they can share Christ's story. The recipient is reminded of God's Grace and promise that we are never alone. They can also share Christ's story when asked about the wrap. If you are interested in becoming involved in our prayer shawl ministry or know of someone that would benefit from receiving one of our shawls or lap blankets, please contact the church office or Cindy Gremp at 281-363-9898. Lessons and supplies are provided.
